DressMonkey is a new concept in the world of fashion: a luxury brand that doesn’t cost a fortune because it cuts out all the hype. We aim to appeal to that inner voice that says, “I’m different” even if no one is paying attention. It’s like going to work or to school with no underwear: you feel different even though you look the same; things seem funnier because you know something that everyone else doesn’t.

Oops, Did We Say Brand?

At DressMonkey.com, we’re changing the idea of “brand” by putting our customers in control and making them the nexus of the entire shirt/blazer-making process. In a sense, then, DressMonkey is the “anti-brand.”

We’ve been in China for years. We’ve visited the factories where top brand names make seventy-dollar shirts for seventy cents. The product we offer is of similar or better quality than other brands; we’re just eliminating all the unseen brand mark-up.

The main difference between our clothes and those of our closest competitors is simply our involvement in the manufacturing process of and our willingness to share it with our customers.

Our Confession

We admit it. We do still occasionally buy certain high-end brands, even as we’re busy building our own (customer inspired) “anti-brand” for world domination. Some of the stuff that floods our stores is in fact of high quality and looks nice.

What we can’t agree with, however, is the industry-wide standard in fashion that says it’s ok for a name stitched into a shirt to be worth the better part of a hard-earned paycheck, nor are we convinced that a mass-produced garment destined for the rack in a department store will look and feel better than a garment that is cut and sewn specifically for the person who’s ordered it.

We are able to offer such low prices for our custom clothing because there are no middlemen involved in our business, just you and us. We source everything from the fabric to the buttons ourselves because we believe you deserve the best quality blazer. The lower price on all our products is not an indication of an inferior product but of our unwillingness to compromise your own money for our gain.

We could go on an endless diatribe about how we reject “the man” behind big business apparel and the sheer extortion he subjects us to when we buy a brand name label, but we think our actions will speak louder than our words.
